Stress Management: Ways to Prevent & Relieve Stress.

For so many years, mental health in the United States has been a widespread problem. But the issue is only starting to get nationwide attention now. A study published by Everyday Health in fact concluded that chronic stress in the US is a national epidemic, cutting across people of all ages and all genders. Over 57% of all people polled in the study felt they were paralyzed by stress.

Additionally, a Global Emotions report by Gallup published in 2019 also found that Americans are actually some of the most stressed people in the planet.  Dealing with mental health is, however, something complex. In some severe cases, professional help might be mandatory to address the situation.

But there are still a number of things you can do at home to prevent and manage stress. In this post, we will focus on this “homemade” prevention and relief strategies.

Stress Relief and Prevention

Preventing stress is practically impossible, especially when you consider the hustle and bustle of everyday life that we have to deal with. However, stress can be managed. Although in certain cases professional help may be needed, there are still a few things you can do at home to relieve stress. Here are some of them.

·       Exercise on a Regular Basis

Any form of physical activity could play a key role in stress management. According to a study by the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, regular exercise can improve alertness, reduce fatigue, and enhance overall cognitive functions.

·       Get Enough Sleep

There is this belief that the mind is actually connected to the body. In essence, what happens to your body has a direct effect on what happens to your mind. Mental health is, therefore, not just about treating the mind. It’s also about treating the body. There is no better way to do that than getting enough sleep. Sleep relaxes and recharges your mind, allowing you to wake up each day full of energy and optimism.

·       Manage Your Time Very Well

This one is easier said than done but it’s still something you have to try. Everyone always seems busy these days. There is always something you are trying to complete and mostly you don’t often seem to get enough time to do it.  Trying to accomplish so much within so little time puts unnecessary pressure on yourself. Managing your time and planning every second can help you avoid such a situation. It will allow you to get more things done without necessarily feeling the last minute pressure.

·       See an Expert

Severe cases of stress may also degenerate into full blown depression if you are not careful. In case you are trying a number of “homemade” stress relief strategies without any results, it may be time to get in touch with an expert.  This will help you get to the root of the problem before it’s too late.

Stress is fairly common these days. However, it doesn’t have to negatively affect your life. With the simple tips above, you can start managing stress at home and live a better life.
